Here at The Orthodontic Place, with our practices in Kent Town and Bowden, our vision has always been about more than just providing exceptional orthodontic treatment. We wanted to create a space where our patients feel genuinely welcome, comfortable, and maybe even inspired from the moment they walk in. We believe the environment is a crucial part of the overall treatment experience, influencing everything from oral health outlooks to easing anxieties. That’s why, when designing our clinic(s), we knew we wanted something special, something that reflected our commitment to both clinical excellence and positive patient experiences. We aimed for unique orthodontist decor, and we found the perfect partner to help us achieve that vision: the incredibly talented artist, Dots by Donna!

A Spark of Inspiration: Discovering the Magic of Dots by Donna

Our connection with Dots by Donna wasn’t just a sudden decision; it stemmed from genuine admiration. Dr. Sara Dudley has been a huge fan of Donna’s distinctive dot animal artwork for years, even collecting her prints. Having seen her vibrant creations at local art markets, the unique shape, captivating colour palettes, and pure fun embedded in her style always stood out. There’s an undeniable warmth and joy in her work that we knew would enhance the aesthetics of our practice.

Designing Our Dream Space: The Perfect Fit for Our Walls

When the first step of designing the new practice began, creating the right atmosphere was paramount. We wanted to move away from the traditional, often sterile feel of a dental office. We envisioned a bright, engaging space that felt more like a welcoming gallery than just a clinic. Seeing Donna’s large-scale wall decals available was the ‘aha!’ moment. We knew straight away, this was how we could bring personality and life to our walls and truly create that special environment for everyone visiting our orthodontic practice.

Bringing the Vision to Life: Collaborating With Dots by Donna

Each of Donna’s illustrations is entirely original, crafted with incredible patience and precision. Ranging from 40 to 200 hours per piece, her work is a labour of love, every fine detail, from small features to flowing strands of hair, is formed through the meticulous layering of thousands of hand-drawn dots. Created completely freehand, without any tracing, her process speaks to an unwavering commitment to authenticity and artistic integrity.

Bringing this vision to life was a wonderfully smooth process. Having already made a connection previously, we contacted Donna directly. She was an absolute pleasure to work with, sharing our enthusiasm for the project. Together, we discussed our aesthetic goals and selected pieces that would perfectly complement our clinic’s design and colour palette. The Dots by Donna orthodontist collaboration felt like a true partnership from beginning to end.

Watching the artwork being installed was incredibly exciting for our whole team. But the end result? It truly exceeded all expectations. Donna’s art has completely transformed our practice.

As Dr Sara Dudley says, “The result is better than I imagined! It’s the centre of attention and created so much buzz in the clinic.” The vibrant animals now greet patients in our reception areas and waiting room, bringing an element of surprise and delight. Even the treatment rooms feel warmer and more inviting. It’s amazing how art can change the entire appearance and energy of a room.

The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. “Everybody loves it, patients, parents, and our team too!” It’s become a fantastic conversation starter, helping everyone feel more relaxed.
